Joshua
Idaho
I grew up on a farm with loving parents. Pot, alcohol and Meth were my party drugs until life spiraled down and was no longer a party. I came to Teen Challenge in 2003, where I was discipled and forever changed. God burdened my heart to come to TCIMI and eventually work with youth.

The Pacific Northwest Centers Ministry and Training Institute is a ministry of Teen Challenge International. Our motto is: We exist to train and equip those who have been set free to set free others. The Apostle Paul wrote to the church at Ephesus regarding why God gave the church leaders. “… to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of Christ.” (Ephesians 4:12,13) We accept the responsibility to train others to be leaders who will shepherd the flock of God and be involved in great works of service.

As we seek to minister to students, we want to encourage them to seek out their calling and to be open to whatever God desires for them. “What ever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the Gospel of Christ.” (Philippians 1:27) In light of this charge to display conduct that is worthy of the Gospel, the purpose of this student handbook seeks to give an understanding of our expectations and the general guidelines for life while at TCIMI.

Our desire is not to limit or restrain a student’s ability to allow God to transform their lives but to present an atmosphere where students can excel in all areas of their lives, including the spiritual, emotions and physical. We assert that a student’s responsibility goes beyond academic obligation.  Student conduct is an important issue.  It is understood that individuals have a variety of interpretations regarding “appropriate conduct”, but there are standards which must be upheld for the integrity of this school. We believe that these are characterized by a deep consecration and devotion in spiritual life, clean conduct and conversation, modest apparel in dress, and high standards of moral life.

It is understood that not all of the graduates of the Pacific Northwest Ministry and Training Institute will become full time laborers of Teen challenge, a church or other ministry. We believe that every Christian is called to be a minister of the Gospel and the training a student receives will enable them to be effective in rightly dividing the Word of God and meeting the needs of others.  We attempt to present options to students as they seek to fulfill the calling God has placed on their lives.

May you be blessed, encouraged and fulfilled as you consider entrance into this journey of training and purpose. Always remember what the Apostle Paul wrote to the church at Colosse. “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” (Col. 3:17)

Currently, we are operating two separate outreach ministries. Our students assemble in downtown Portland where they minister to the homeless, the lost and others who choose to wander in the downtown area as well as under the bridges.
